We are not lost..... or missing... Woodstock
Not a great way to start the blog but we ended up camping without electricity and so only now can I get started......
So here we go.
Before we left we, cleaned and packed the Airstream and got the house ready for our house sitter, Lucas.
All organized and ready to go. |
Looks pretty good and about as clean as it will. |
Monday, 8/12
Drove to Columbia to give Rowan a hug before we left. We spent the first night in a hotel in North Carolina and made good time.
Tuesday 8/13
We made to to Virginia and discovered a great little park. Mostly empty.
It is right on the river and I wish we had a bit more time as it looked quite fishy.
Nice bike trail |
Wednesday 8/13
We had allowed for another day of travel to the Woodstock reunion but ended up getting there a day early. Since we had time, we stopped by the festival site to get "travel passes".
This was not 1969 and you could not get near the place without the right credentials. Look at what we saw in the parking lot, people stopped us and asked about the camper.
They have turned the original site into a museum and concert venue, pretty commercial.
We stayed at Beaverkill Campground, about thirty miles north of Bethel Woods.
It was a nice campground along a famous trout stream, only problem was Larry did not check the amenities and electrical hookups was not one of them. The camper has a battery so we had lights and the water pump and it was not a big issue.
Another Airstream was there. |
Since we had an extra day.... I found a local guide to learn more about trout fishing.
Guide Dennis, a local PE teacher, did a great job |
Amazing assortment |
Caught about ten brown and rainbow trout, all released. |
Friday through Monday. 8/15 -19
There were concerts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and we went on Friday and Sunday. The atmosphere was a bit strange with older people wearing new tie dye and merchandise flying off the shelves. A sprinkling of people who did not develop past 1969.
It was fun to hear stories of people who were there and see them pointing to where they were sitting. For some reason, many did not remember much...... :-)
On Friday, we saw Blood, Sweat and Tears (no members of the original band), they were okay. Edgar Winter was next and he was outstanding, one of the highlights. I noticed that some of his set is already on YouTube. The headliner was Ringo Starr and His All Star Band and I am not sure what to say about them. Ringo has limited talent, we all know that but it did not seem to connect with me or many in the audience,
There is one way in and out, we got home at 2am.
The next day I fished a bit and we rested and lated rode bikes and got a bite to eat.
Sunday, we heard Grace Potter, the Tedeschi Truck band and John Fogerty. Grace was a bit over the top loud. Susan loved TTB, a bit jazzy for me. John Fogerty has a set show and he played it interspersed with stories, he seemed happy to be there. We were worried he might fall and break a hip. I was surprised how good he really sounds. Had his sons there, one can play the guitar, the other tried to sing (embarrassing moment). Can you imagine being John Fogerty's son and trying to be a musician?
Here are some Woodstock images

Lots of this, hard not be cynical at some point |
A few of these folks are still around |
Ringo |
Ouch! |
Where we sat for John Fogerty, nice venue |
We had a good time and on Monday, packed up and drove about four hours to Rutland Vermont where we are staying at a hotel to get organized and try to charge everything.
This morning we will travel to the White Mountains where we hope to have water AND electricity.
Struggling with the formatting a bit, will work on it. More later.
This is Tim again...thanks for the update. Sounds like the Airstream is working well. It sure looks nice inside and out. I think the camper would look good painted like that VW bus in one of your pictures that you posted here!! Trout streams look peaceful. I’d think it would be a bit overwhelming to be at Woodstock on the 50th...such an iconic place. Good to know some of the music was good. Fogerty’s kids need to find another profession!! I know you are in some cooler weather than down here...coffee by the campfire in the White Mountains...sounds great. Safe travels and thanks for the pictures and update.
