Delores, Mesa Verde, Mancos, Hovenweep, Natural Bridges and no fish

We have been really busy since we arrived here in Delores, Colorado, a small town on the world famous (not for me) trout river by the same name.   We are staying at a commercial campsite full of big rigs and all that goes with it.  But it has worked as a base.

Let’s get the fishing out of the way.  I know nothing about trout and it showed.  There is a good section of river here at the campground and I did manage two, three inch fish.  I also ventured to a few different places but had no luck.  It was beautiful....... I will recoup on some of my guided trips later.

The main draw here is Mesa Verde National park, home of the early Pueblos, up to 40,000 people lived here for many centuries and they progressed from small hut-like dwellings to the famous cliff houses you can see below.  Unfortunately, some of the park is closed and that limited us a bit.

Yesterday, I fished a bit in the morning and then we went to a small town near here, Mancos, famous for their artisans where Susan found some cool pottery.

Today was an awesome and very busy day.  We got up early and went to an amazing archeological site.  There are numerous ruins with large towers and quite intricate architecture.  We hiked a loop around the site for about two miles.  By the time we were done, it was 90 degrees, dry but still hot.

Hey Rachael..... the young woman park ranger graduated from IU and took loads of classes at SPEEA, not sure if that is right but u know what I mean.  She told us we had to go to this other place an hour away where the arches are just as good as Arches.

So we went and they were awesome.  See below.  I left Susan for a bit and hiked into the  canyon for a closer look.  Ladders and hand holds to get down there.

Tomorrow, we drive a couple of hours to the Moab area where we will be staying at Deadhorse Point State Park and going to Canyonlands and Arches National Parks.

Not sure about the internet there but am not hopeful.  Take care all,

Susan and Larry
